Sony NEX 5N with Voigtlander Nokton 50mm f/1.1

The Sony NEX 5N has become my family camera. Small and light, fast to operate, a very fast motor drive and superb high ISO performance its just perfect for my family snapshots. My four e-mount lenses (16mm, 18-55, 55-210 and 50mm f/1.8) can fit in a medium size camera bag and the weight is so light that’s a joy to carry around all day long.

The ability to use almost every lens ever produced with the use of the appropriate adapter is also a great asset of the NEX. As I’ve written recently, for my Leica M I have abandoned the Nokton 50mm f/1.1 for the slower f/1.5 version which is sharper, smaller and does not exhibit focus shift. On the NEX, focus shift is not a problem since you can nail focus due to live view. The focus peaking is a fantastic feature which allows me to focus fast and accurately.

When the night falls, the Voigtlander 50mm f/1.1 is a joy to use with the NEX. It can practically see in the dark and the razor thing DoF can lead to very creative images. On the NEX it becomes a 75mm, so its also a great portraits lens.

Being able to shoot at available light with decent speeds and without the need to use high ISO values gives you the ability to catch almost every subject. Even at some distance, the f/1.1 aperture is able to blur background.

Christmas season means beautiful color and lights all over the city and its my main subject these days as you can see from the images I post !!

Although I have the e-mount 50mm f/1.8 lens, I use more the Nokton. At low light, the NEX lens cannot focus fast or accurately so if I have to focus manually I prefer the Nokton. When I find the time I will probably make a comparison between them.

One other lens that I willnuse these days is the Voigtlander 35mm f/1.4 with the NEX. It’s a fast lens with a classic look and the 52mm equivalent focal length makes it a more versatile lens.

Enjoy the rest of the images.
