Coming in a few days…

What you are looking at, is 4×5 sheet film holders. As you can easily guess, I am taking the next step to large format photography. Arriving in a few days is a Sinar Norma 4×5 view camera with the Symmar-S 210mm f/5.6 lens. I will also be using the Nikkor 90mm f/8 SW from my Fotoman 612 camera. Ilford’s FP4 and HP5 will be my first sheet films. I am going to develop them myself using the MOD54 which fits into my Patterson 3 tank. I’ve been practicing loading film into the holders and the MOD54 and it seems quite easy, so I am really waiting for the moment I will see my first developed 4×5 sheet.

Stay tuned !!

Congratulations. I’m also making the switch although I think I’ll be shoot mostly using a 6×12 Sinar back on my Chamonix since I don’t develop my own film yet and nothing seems to scan 4×5 well except a drum scanner and I like scanning at home.

Thanks Angus, large format is indeed a very different and exciting territory. I opted for a monorail camera over a field one, since I usually take images near to my car, and I also want to shoot architecture & portraits. I will use my Epson V700 for scanning, I know it does not compare to a drum scan, or a 6×9 scan from a Coolscan scanner, but I am sure I will get the superb tonality from b&w film for decent size prints, after all a 4×5 negative is rule huge so the V700 will be able to extract quite an amount of information.

I’ve got the Minolta Dimage Scan Pro – very much like the Coolscan. Eying the new Plustek Opticfilm 120 which scans up to 6×12… V700 should do a nice job too.
