Abandoned old buildings many times present a great subject for taking images. I will usually use black and white film or convert to monochrome when shooting digital, but this time the impressive yellow color of the building demanded a color approach.

I though for a minute to load a Portra 400 film on my Makina 67 (and it would sure produce stunning results) but I needed a wider lens, so I eventually used my Sony NEX 5N. I chose the Toy Camera effect which proved to be just what I had in mind for this subject. I also shot some b&w images using the Rich Tone b&w effect but the monochrome images were far less impressive, so I stuck with color.

I did the editing with the new Lightroom 4. This is a worthy upgrade since it incorporates new sliders for highlights and shadows which actually work very well. Also, you can now import video clips and make some basic exposure, contrast and white balance edit which is also very useful. I often shoot a few minute of video on my trips, but I generally don’t have the time to edit it properly (video demands lots time to post process and edit correctly).

Anyway, here are the rest of the images.

It is sad to see such a beautiful building in this bad condition, I think the only solution is to tear it down … It must have looked beautiful and fantastic when new.
